Have you ever wanted to learn to Fly Fish our Southern California Bays?  Or are you a seasoned salt water fly angler?   This is an open invitation for all Southern California Club members to come fish Mission Bay for a multitude of Salt Water species. 

If you answered yes to any of the above, the GSF/SWCIFFF 1St Annual Interclub Mission Bay Fly Fishing Classic is for you!  GSF will be hosting a weekend of fun, education and a little bit of friendly competition!   

Mission bay is located just north of downtown San Diego and is a fishing paradise.  There are miles of sandy beaches that are productive wading and plenty of launch ramps for those who wish to float.  

The Event Details:

Dates: June 9 through June 11, (Friday through Sunday)

Costs:

Tournament $25

Award Banquet and Dinner $25

Dinner and Award Banquet will be held at the Mission Bay Boat and Ski Club.  There will be a silent Auction during social hour and concluding before the awards.

Beneficiaries:

Portions of the Proceeds from the event will go to SWCIFF, Project Healing Waters and to GSF

Places Fish:

A detailed map of wading access and boat/ kayak will be provided prior to event.

Competition Details:

There will be two separate Divisions: Floating and Wading

Each Club can bring as few/ Or as many members as they wish.  Each club will take their five highest competitors scores for the team scores. Clubs with less than five team members will be given prorated scores to get up to five members. 

Individuals awards will be given, along with the team awards.

Points will be awarded per fish, and based on species.  Example, a spotted bay bass will be worth 1 point (very common) and a Cortez bonefish will be worth 10 points (rare, but they are in the bay).  Size won’t matter in scoring, but large fish will have pictures taken for largest fish award.  

Suggested Gear:

Fly Rod:     5-8 Weight; 9’ to 10’ in length

Fly Line:     (Match weight of Rod): Floating, Floating with Intermediate tip, Intermediate with Sink tip. 

Flies:         Clouser Minnows, bait fish patterns, Deceivers, Woolly Buggers, Crab patterns, Shrimp Patterns

Tippet:       6-12 pound, Fluro / Mono

Itinerary:

Friday, June 9th:

6pm Social Hour, 7PM Presentation on how to fish the bay by one of the Top Guides in San Diego.

Saturday, June 10th:

Meet at 6:30 am for sign in, Briefing and Photos

7:30am: Fishing begins

2:00: Fishing Ends

3:00: Final Call for Turn in Score Cards – All Cards must be turned in by 3PM!!!!

3:00 – 4:15: Social Hour/ Silent Raffle at Mission Bay Boat and Ski Club

4:30: Dinner – Banquet Style

5:00: Award Ceremony/ Recognition

6:00 – Conclude Event

Open fishing on the Bay/ Surf

There are many lodging options available, from Camping to five star hotels.  A list of hotels can be provided if needed.  Hotels.com or Booking.com is a good place to start.
