We have changed the original plan for the Mission Bay Fly Fishing Classic to be just an education day fishing on Mission Bay.
It has come to our attention that many people are worried about the pressures of a competition on waters they haven't fished, or are new to fly fishing the salt.
So instead of having a formal competition, the day will be about anglers working together to learn how much fun salt water on a fly rod can be. The bay has been fishing very well, with halibut, corbina and plenty of bay bass being caught on a fly.
No new fly fishing gear will be needed, a 5 or 6 weight rod with a floating line is all you need to fish the bay. Flies will be clouser minnows, crazydads, or small baitfish patterns. Size 2-6.
There will be no cost for this day, it'll just be a day we all can fish and enjoy the SoCal summer.
We will meet at Mission Bay Boat and Ski Club (2606 N Mission Bay Dr, San Diego, CA 92109) at 7:30 am on Saturday June 10th. We'll leave the boat club at 8am to go fishing.
